Description & Requirements

Executive Assistant and Board Liaison

The Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB) is seeking an Executive Assistant and Board Liaison to play a pivotal role at the heart of AGB's leadership, serving as a trusted partner to the President and CEO and as the essential connection to AGB's Board of Directors. In this high-energy, proactive role, you will anticipate needs, build strong relationships across the organization, and ensure that executive and Board operations run seamlessly. You will work in AGB's hybrid environment, spending at least two days each week in our downtown Washington, D.C. headquarters, and collaborating closely with colleagues and Board members across the region. You will be part of a mission-driven organization that values excellence, trust, and impact, and you will help enable leadership and governance that strengthen higher education nationwide.

Best-in-Class Benefits and Culture:

We value our employees' time and efforts. Our commitment to your success is enhanced by a competitive compensation of $90,000-$110,000 annually, depending on experience, and an extensive benefits package including:

  • Comprehensive health coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance provided
  • Robust retirement planning: 401(k) plan available with employer matching
  • Financial security: Life and disability insurance for added protection
  • Flexible financial options: Health savings and flexible spending accounts offered
  • Well-being and work-life balance: Paid time off, flexible schedule, and remote work choices provided

Plus, we work to maintain the best environment for our employees, where people can learn and grow with the company. We strive to provide a collaborative, creative environment where everyone feels encouraged to contribute to our processes, decisions, planning, and culture.

To succeed as the Executive Assistant and Board Liaison, you should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with 7+ years of experience supporting a President/CEO or senior executive team, ideally within an association or nonprofit environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting a Board of Directors and committees, including governance processes, volunteer leadership, and confidential executive matters.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual collaboration platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams, with the ability to produce polished, error-free materials.
  • Refined written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, paired with high levels of organization, discretion, and attention to detail in a fast-paced, multi-priority setting.
  • Availability for occasional domestic travel within the continental United States and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including volunteer leaders and cross-functional teams.

Your responsibilities as the Executive Assistant and Board Liaison will include:

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the President/CEO and Board of Directors, managing communications, priorities, and relationships with discretion, sound judgment, and professionalism.
  • Coordinate and support all Board and committee operations, including meeting schedules, agendas, materials, minutes, compliance documentation, and the Board web portal.
  • Manage executive and Board meeting logistics end-to-end, including calendars, venues, contracts, travel, accommodations, registrations, and on-site coordination.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain high-quality executive and governance materials, including presentations, correspondence, background briefings, policies, and official records.
  • Ensure effective governance processes and continuity, maintaining accurate Board profiles, policies, calendars, orientation materials, and governance tools in partnership with the Governance Committee.

We are an equal opportunity employer that welcomes and encourages diversity in the workplace. We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, marital status, age, national origin, ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic information, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, or any other status protected under federal, state, or local law.
