Job Description & RequirementsOur Partner, located in North Carolina , is seeking experienced Physician Assistants and Acute Care Nurse Practitioners to provide locum coverage in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) .
\n\nProviders will join a nationally recognized cardiac program and an established academic team caring for post-surgical cardiac and vascular patients in a 16-bed, state-of-the-art CVICU .
\n\n This assignment offers Top 10% pay based on verified 2025 national locum APP ICU market data .
\n
\nProviders completing the full six-month contract can expect total gross earnings of approximately $140,000 .
Dates: January 2026 – July 2026
\n\t\n\tSchedule:
\n\n\t12-hour shifts, rotating days, nights, and weekends
\n\t\t\n\t\tDay Shift: 6:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
\n\t\t\n\t\tNight Shift: 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
\n\t\t\n\t\tTotal: 84 hours every 2 weeks (7 shifts per pay period; mix of 3 and 4 shifts alternating weeks)
\n\t\t\n\tSetting: 16-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit
\n\t\n\tCall: None required
\n\t\n\tOrientation: 16 hours (non-billable)
\n\t\n\tCharting: Epic EMR
\n\t\nManage critically ill post–cardiac and vascular surgical patients.
\n\t\n\tConduct comprehensive assessments and develop treatment plans.
\n\t\n\tOrder and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging.
\n\t\n\tPrescribe medications within scope of practice (DEA required).
\n\t\n\tPerform advanced ICU procedures, including:
\n\n\tArterial and central venous line placement
\n\t\t\n\t\tDialysis catheter insertion
\n\t\t\n\t\tChest tube placement and removal
\n\t\t\n\t\tThoracentesis
\n\t\t\n\t\tBronchoscopy
\n\t\t\n\t\tFeeding tube placement
\n\t\t\n\t\tIntra-aortic balloon pump removal
\n\t\t\n\t\tTransvenous pacer/Swan-Ganz catheter placement
\n\t\t\n\t\tPacing wire removal
\n\t\t\n\tParticipate in multidisciplinary rounds with attending intensivists and fellows.
\n\t\nEducation: PA-C or ACNP required
\n\t\n\tExperience: Minimum 2 years in ICU (CVICU preferred)
\n\t\n\tCertifications: BLS and ACLS required
\n\t\n\tLicensure: Active North Carolina license (or eligibility)
\n\t\n\tDEA: Required
\n\t\n\tCharting: Epic experience preferred
\n\t\n\tOther: Must demonstrate procedural competency and ability to manage high-acuity cardiac patients
