Job Description

Phlebotomist at Providence Health and Services summary:

The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood samples through venipuncture or capillary sticks, handling and processing specimens, and operating laboratory information systems. This role includes reception duties, specimen registration, and preparing samples for shipping to reference laboratories, as well as training new staff when assigned. The position requires certification and experience in phlebotomy and supports patient-focused care at Providence St. Peter Hospital.

Description

All Sites: Reception and Telephone duties & proficient operation laboratory equipment including HIS/LIS systems; specimen handling: receiving and processing; prep & shipping of lab specimens for at Reference Laboratories; specimen/patient registration; phlebotomy - collection of blood samples by venipuncture or capillary stick; therapeutic blood collection; swab collection of specific Micro samples (per competency); assignment to OP Lab locations; training new staff as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Upon hire: Washington Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification
  • 6 months of Direct experience as a phlebotomist and/or completion of a Phlebotomy program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework/Training and Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy training Program/Course approved by WA State.
