Overview:
The Department of Medicine at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) is hiring faculty for the division of Infectious Diseases. Applicants with interests in ambulatory and inpatient clinical infectious diseases, teaching medical students and residents, and at all faculty ranks will be considered. There are also opportunities and resources to support clinical, laboratory, and educational research. The division has plans to start an accredited infectious disease fellowship program in the near future. Leadership opportunities within the division and/or department are available to candidates with experience and a track record of academic achievement and leadership. Interested faculty candidates without prior experience but with a desire for future leadership opportunities may be groomed internally for future leadership roles within the institution. There are also clinical opportunities for applicants who are dually board-certified in adult and pediatric infectious diseases.
Responsibilities:
Division faculty offer a comprehensive range of inpatient and ambulatory clinical services and educational programs for residents and medical students. Faculty members provide inpatient consultations (with no admissions to Division faculty) at Beacon Kalamazoo Health System and Bronson Health System, in addition to outpatient clinics. This position is optimum for candidates who want to expand their clinical practice under an umbrella of a university faculty practice. The compensation package is market competitive and would include a heavily incentivized clinical productivity model in addition to a base salary. New faculty members are expected to spend approximately ninety to ninety five percent of their time with clinical and teaching responsibilities. Academic effort is optional and would be up to five or ten percent. Call is shared with the division physicians in proportion to the clinical responsibilities assigned to the faculty. Depending on candidate’s interest and availability, there are substantial opportunities for developing clinical research in collaboration with the medical school's Center for Clinical Research, pursuing academic endeavors, and expanding clinical services based on candidate sub-specialty training and career interests. One current member of the division is dually board-certified in adult and pediatric infectious diseases. Outpatient care for HIV and Chronic Viral Hepatitis is an integral part of the outpatient clinic activities of the division.
